Enamel can go in fire. However it--like enameled pots and pans--is susceptible to thermal shock. If you're camping in the winter and put a freezing cup directly over flames (or pour boiling water into it quickly) you put a lot of stress on the enamel which increases the risk of cracking, reducing its life.
